… the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter — tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther … And one fine morning — So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
— F. Scott Fitzgerald

Just as some of the people in dreams can represent the dark, others can represent the light.  But often when we try remember those in our dreams that were sending us on a positive path, we can never remember their full body. We don’t always recall what they were wearing or what they said. We don’t recall whether they smiled the entire time or were simply stoic.

But what we do remember are specific features.  A lock of hair. The way the lips pursed together. The curves that connected hand to arm or foot to leg. Or a dramatic pose. Although we may lose the overall meaning of the dream, it is the detail that sticks with us.
